Welcome to Nursery at St Margaret's at Hasbury.

Our Early Years Foundation Stage is designed to provide a happy, safe and interesting environment where children can gain an excellent start to their school journey. We pride ourselves on our positive, caring ethos which allows children to develop as individuals and begin to build long lasting friendships.

Our EYFS encompasses the seven areas of learning as described in the Dept. for Education’s Statutory Framework with particular emphasis on the three Prime Areas in Nursery. We see these areas of Personal, social and emotional development (PSED), Communication and language (CL) and Physical Development (PD) as fundamental building blocks on which to build future learning.

Our school curriculum drivers of

  • Creativity
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Independence
  • Resilience
  • Curiosity

otherwise known as the ‘Hasbury Hows’ can regularly be seen in action. We believe these life skills to be essential attributes to being a successful learner and citizen in the future.

We recognise that our children are unique. They learn at different rates and have differing preferences and strengths. With this in mind we strive to provide learning environments indoors and outdoors that provide safe learning spaces where children can play, explore, observe, create, be active, ‘have a go’ and ‘try things out’ and ultimately ‘have fun!’

Our EYFS staff ensure that children experience a wide variety of activities. These range from reciting favourite stories and rhymes and daily mark-making through to building dens and creating mud slides during our weekly Woodland days.

Children are taught pre-writing skills daily in the form of fine motor and mark-making activities. These include ‘Dough Disco,’ ‘Squiggle Whilst You Wiggle’ and challenges from our Handwriting Scheme, ‘Kinetic Letters.’ Children also receive short phonics and maths lessons in small groups.

Please refer to our Curriculum Maps for more information and be sure to look out for invitations to our seasonal events, church services and learning activity workshops.
